by PASTOR JOHN TOVEY
As a pastor, I am always ready for an opportunity for myself and the people I have the privilege of shepherding to make an impact for the Kingdom. So, in June, our team of 18 from Michigan Center Bible Church, (consisting of teens from the age of 14 to senior adults in their 80s), drove 12 hours to work on a future staff home for Transformation Life Center (TLC). This would be our third trip (2006, 2007) to work with Tom Mahairas and CitiVision.
We worked for five days on a house that had been gutted; only the electrical had been installed. Our job was to insulate and drywall the inside of the house as well as to set the exterior doors and install siding on the outside of the house. God blessed us with perfect weather, and we did accomplish a great deal.
The typical day was breakfast at 7 a.m., then on to the site by 8:00. We worked daily until 4:30 p.m. with a short lunch break at noon, then off to TLC for dinner and a Bible devotional. We returned to our accommodations around 9 p.m. … then repeat!
Our time with the men at TLC was great. You could tell these men were thankful for the work we were accomplishing, and they enjoyed interaction with our team. It was great hearing some of the testimonies of the men — what their lives were like before and how they have been changed by the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We are grateful that God has called George and Angela Kalaras to be involved in this vital ministry.
